Do You Have Trouble Staying Motivated to Get Fit? You’re Not Alone. Cooking Healthy Academy Programs Can Help!
At Cooking Healthy Academy, we believe that you are your greatest healer. No one knows your body better than you, and when you begin listening to your body, you start to remember how to nourish it with the food you eat and the choices you make.
We also know that getting healthy takes understanding and support. How do we know? Because we’ve been there! It’s easy to get off track, and to get discouraged. Luckily, at Cooking Healthy, we’re on this journey with you. We can give you advice on finding your inner health nut and creating new habits that will change your life.
Mentoring is available with our online life coach. We also offer several programs that can kick-start your journey. We recommend the following tips, as well, to hold on to that precious motivation as you change your life for the better.
5 Tips for Finding Motivation and Crushing Goals
(1) Remind Yourself of Your Purpose
One of our clients who’s rebuilding a healthy lifestyle after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease wears a charm with the word “balance” printed on it. It reminds her that making little changes and following a healthy lifestyle gives her body the balance it needs. What’s your focus word?
We believe that reminding ourselves of the reason we set out to get healthy in the first place can help us stay focused in our stressful, day-to-day lives. So we encourage you to write down your thoughts, put a note in your phone, post an image on your fridge, or wear a reminder around your wrist … anything that will help you stay on track.
(2) Set Reasonable Goals – and Write Them Down!
If you tell yourself after your third glass of wine that you’re going to go to the gym way more and lose twenty pounds before Thanksgiving, well – guess what – it probably won’t happen. If, on the other hand, you set reasonable goals and create a workable plan for meeting them, you’ll do a lot better! Here’s an example: Make a plan for walking three times a week. Or eating a healthy breakfast four out of seven days. Or cooking at home three days a week. Or adding one extra vegetable to your nightly meal. Those goals are more practical, and reaching them each week will make you feel better than failing at a big, fat unreachable goal once every few months.
(3) Chart Your Progress and Reward Yourself!
Checking your scale every morning is a good way to track your progress, but you don’t have to go that route. You may want to track how much more energy you have, or how much better your clothes are fitting. When you begin to see results, don’t forget to celebrate your successes and reward yourself! (In a healthy way, of course.) Schedule a spa day or buy yourself that bracelet you’ve been eyeing. After all, reducing stress and staying positive will have a positive impact on your health, too.
(4) Don’t Go It Alone
While we love to make new friends here at Cooking Healthy Academy, we’re not just saying this to be friendly. Research has actually shown that if you and a friend work together to reach similar goals, you’ll have more success. So, ask your spouse to cook a meal with you once a week. Or invite your bestie to yoga class or for a weekly walk in the park. Friends will help you stay motivated.
(5) Don’t Let a Slip-Up Get You Down
At Cooking Healthy Academy we believe in being patient with ourselves. Did you give into temptation and have one of those office donuts? So what! Don’t let it derail your entire day or your entire week. Give yourself permission to slip up every now and then, as long as you’re maintaining a healthy lifestyle the rest of the time. You won’t lose weight overnight; it truly is a journey. Trust in yourself and just keep going.
Having a bad day? Drink a glass of water. Take a walk. Relax in a hot bath. Remember that reducing stress can help you lose weight, too.
A lifestyle change like this requires you to pay a little bit more attention to your body. So, accept yourself and remember: every little step makes a huge difference.
